The SoccerPlus Education Center is a Connecticut-based 501-c-3 non-profit service organization. The Education Center strives to develop not only better soccer players, but better citizens. This is achieved through educational programs, seminars, community outreach events and individual mentoring on and off the soccer field.

The SoccerPlus Club Outreach Program takes youth soccer players out into the community to interact with those less fortunate through participation in an after school program. The students receive a snack and a positive message is shared with the club players acting as peer mentors. The group then plays soccer, the coaches and club players teach soccer skills and play with the students.

The program provides a snack and positive message to the the students and then the Club Players and Coaches taught soccer skills and played with the students after school from 3:30 to 5:00 pm each Tues (girls) and Wed (boys). The program finished with a field trip to the first Reds Home game on May 9th.

Letter from Fox Elementary Principle Michael D. Lorenzo (May 5, 2008):
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for providing my students with such an outstanding opportunity through your SOCCERPLUS CAMPS program. As you know, we had in excess of 60 boy and girls participate in this wonderful skills training program and quite honestly could have had five times that number become involved if you had the time and staff to accommodate us. Your staff and the students they brought with them did an extraordinary job of teaching and coaching our students, many of whom have not been exposed to this form of soccer instruction. Because we are a school that has 100% of our students below the national poverty level this was an experience that they will most likely never have an opportunity to enjoy under normal circumstances.

I sincerely hope that you will continue this program next year and years to come. I already have a list of students that have “signed up” in anticipation of the opportunity. My students thank you, their parents thank you, our staff thanks you and I thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Best Regards,
Michael D. Lorenzo

Update on Operation Soccer Ball…
UNCLASSIFIED
Just a quick update on Operation Soccer Ball.. I am at my new location, Al Kut, Iraq.

My platoon has settled in here and we have begun to RECON our new area of operations. From the looks of things here it seems that this place is going to need a lot of attention and the kids here could defiantly use some OSB. Judging by the atmospherics here our program has the potential to make even more of an impact in this part of Iraq. I am excited to spread Operation Soccer Ball to Al Kut and look forward to keeping you all up to speed with new pics and stories. Already we have given out 1,300 balls and loads of uniforms and I have 1500 balls and 500 more uniforms on the way. Thanks for your support, please keep spreading the word and my platoon will continue to use this great program to make Iraq a better and safer place.
